I stayed in Aguas Calientes for a month and got to know it well. The biggest problem I encountered was finding good, economical meals. I discovered that one of the best places to eat was in the marketplace where I could buy what I wanted to eat and have one of the numerous restaurants there prepare my meal for me. This turned out to be a healthy and economical choice for me. Before discovering the marketplace, I kept on getting sick if I ate at one of the tourist restaurants and the portions were very small and the prices expensive.

Mate, I remember eating trout at one of the restaurants on the main drag in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) and it cost me more than 10 quid. The kicker is that they only served me half of the fish.
