Could someone who has actually hiked the Sacred Inka Trail please answer this question. I have hiked both the Classic Inka Trail and the Salkantay Alternative Trek and am wondering if the Sacred Inka Trail is really worth it. This two-day hike can cost as much as the other two. Are the ruins and scenery along this trail that unique that I should hike the Sacred Inka Trail too?
The only new ruins that you will see if you previously hiked the Classic Camino Inka are the Chachabamba Incan ruins. They are nice, but you have to ask yourself if it is worth the price to pay for an additional trip. Personally, I would rather hike the Classic Camino Inka trail again rather than hike the two-day Inka Trail.
It depends. If you are limited in time the two-day Inka Trail option is better than taking the bus up the hill to Machu Picchu. If you have the time and are in good physical condition, then by all means hike the Classic Inka Trail. Otherwise, the Sacred Inka trail offers a good alternative to those who do not have the time or are not ready for the more physically-demanding four day hike.
