There are some incredible ruins along the Classic Inca Trail that those who take the train and bus to Machu Picchu miss out on. My favorite is Runkuracay which means "Pile of Ruins" in Quechua. Runkuracay is unique in that it is both circular and symetrical. Archaeologists hypothesize that Runkuracay was a resting station for couriers who along the Camino Inca to Machu Picchu.
